A few notes:
Ohio State? Jon and I talked about this, and we feel really terrible doing it, but they return a lot of guys and have probably the easiest path to the BCS title game as any of the juggernauts. Georgia was a strong candidate, but they’ve lost seemingly everyone but Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford to injuries. Oklahoma should have a strong team and has a dangerously effective quarterback in Sam Bradford.
You may also notice the absence of Clemson, who is notably high on probably every poll but this one. This being a preseason poll, nothing really means anything, and as such, we’ll believe the Clemson hype when we see it.
Tennessee at ten? Why not? The only real question mark is at QB, and Tennessee returns its entire offensive line and a stable of dangerous running backs. Defense shouldn’t be too shabby either with probably the best safety tandem in the NCAA led by Eric Berry.
We felt Duke deserved a showing in this poll, and not because Steve Spurrier left them off. The ACC is weak, and Coach Cut should do a great job there. We also threw in Oklahoma State as a tribute to Trooper Taylor.
No love to the Big East here. Only 1 team made our ballot, WVU at 13. I still need more proof that the Big East is the up and coming conference before I start throwing them some love.

Did you mean to put Arkansas State at #17? And I love Coach Cutcliffe just as much as the next guy, but even putting Duke in the top 25 as a tribute to him is still a joke. I’ve seen a handful of middle school teams that could whoop them. But best of luck all the same.
Hahahaha, whoops! I’ll get that changed. Thanks Jordan! It should be Arizona State.
Jordan, the general guidelines of the poll is to take into account the full season’s resume, and at this point, no teams have any kind of resume at all. That being said, if Steve Spurrier can vote in Duke at #25 in the Coaches’ Poll, then we can put them up there in our preseason poll.
