Holbert Out

2008

GVX is reporting that Senior Fullback David Holbert suffered a knee injury in the FootVols first major scrimmage over the weekend, and is probably out for the rest of the spring, and possibly out for longer.

Holbert suffered a season ending knee injury last year and missed all 14 games, and was hoping to have a bigger role this year in the revamped offense.  It is a very unfortunate story for a kid who had to endure missing the entire season last year and hopefully he can get well enough to be back this year, and if not, hopefully the NCAA will find some compassion and grant him a medical redshirt 6th year.

All our wishes go out to Holbert, and we hope you get well soon.

Of course this sucks mostly because the kid’s life is changed, but from just a football standpoint, it would have been nice to have an actual fullback again, and a mature senior one at that.

Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked, because whether or not he gets back and contributes, he deserves better.
