In what has almost become old hat, the Lady BasketVols were able to advance to the Elite 8 following a 10 point win against the Notre Dame uh, Fighting Lady Irish? Lady Fighting Irish? just Fighting Irish? on Sunday night.
Candace Parker tied her career high with 34 points with an offensive and defensive barrage that sent Notre Dame home with yet another loss to Tennessee. Notre Dame’s coach, Muffet (yes, Muffet) McGraw has never defeated Tennessee, and that streak will last until at least next year.
With the win, Pat Summitt has now won 101 games in the NCAA tournament, an achievement that will likely never be matched (unless Coach K coaches for another 15 years, 40 if Duke keeps going out in the first and second rounds).
Congratulations to the Lady Vols who advance to the Elite 8 to face Texas A&M on Tuesday.
