First off, holy crap, is it freaking Saturday yet?
There have been quite a few storylines that have developed over this past week in terms of building hype for the game between Memphis and Tennessee on Saturday. One of these is of course, the tonnage of (mostly playful) hatred and animosity between the two cross state rivals. Apparently now at the University of Memphis bookstore, students (and fans who couldn’t quite make the entrance requirements of said University) can purchase “I Hate Orange” tshirts. It has created quite a buzz on the campus, fueling debate regarding the game.
However, the combination of Memphis’ heart-stopping comeback win over UAB on Saturday night and Tennessee’s elevation to the No. 2 ranking — creating not just a rivalry game but a rare No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the country matchup — has made the game the topic of conversation on campus.
“Any time you go into class, it is the first thing people talk about,” said Dominic.
You know, I might not know how things go down on the “wessside,” but at the University of Tennessee, the first thing we generally did in class was, you know… learn or something like that. But that’s just how we did things over in K-Town.
Blue sucks. Go Orange.
