GVX: Love/Hate

2008

For awhile now, I’ve been reading GoVolsXtra, back when it wasn’t free, and now that it is free. Granted I’ve never actually paid for the thing, but I used to read it back then nonetheless. One of the benefits of the site going free obviously is the fact that I no longer have to circumvent the system in order to read articles about things that really bear no added value than anything out there for free (read: this blog). The bad thing about the site going free? It kind of makes you dumber.

It isn’t the content that makes you dumber necessarily, because some of the articles on the site are fine (even though it comes from the minds of the same 3 writers, rehashing stories over and over again in an attempt to one day write a sappy story for ESPN that makes grown men get choked up), but it’s the comments that really kill me.

Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, we here at fulmer’s belly only receive a handful of comments from a few dedicated fans who love us unconditionally (often to the point of us sending our readers out on “black ops” involving raiding the tri delt house of their panties), but generally speaking, there aren’t that many comments here.

Over at GVX on the other hand, for every story about Phil Fulmer, or the football team, there are invariably 200 comments, of which at least 50 are just there to bash Fulmer in any way they can (apparently it’s how they get their rocks off on a Friday night), and about 100 bashing those who bash Fulmer, and another 55 bashing the bashers who are bashing Fulmer. I realize that that’s 205 comments, but the extra 5 comments are usually reposts of people who don’t know how the interwebs work.

I used to be a smart guy, with a mensa-level IQ, but after having read the comments on about 10 different articles over on GVX, I can barely feed or bathe myself. I’ve lost sleep due to the fact that I’ve become so dumb, I simply cannot remember how to sleep, and I’ve lost at least 3 cars (not keys… the entire car) and 2 wives, a girlfriend, and my remote control. The last one really irks me.

So take it from me, if you don’t want to become dumber and then not realize why (because you’re so dumb.. get it?), don’t… I repeat: don’t read the comments on GVX. Now, just from me writing that, everyone is going to go out and do just that, but trust me, you should probably be sitting down with a bib on before you do, because by the time you’re through, you’ll be drooling all over yourself and not know why.

Agreed. Those idiots can’t spell, string together words into a “sentence,” or make any point other than “Fulmer’s stoopid.”

The other thing I don’t like is that KNS changes the web site’s format every six months. As soon as I get used to the new format, it’s gone.

If you really have some brain cells to waste, try reading the comments on The Tennessean’s UT articles. Either Vandy needs to raise their entrance requirements, or some people are being dishonest about their past school affiliations. But, no one would be dishonest on the Internet. Would they?

What I find funny are the occasional comments that refer to the site as a message board or a blog.

It’s at least equally as frustrating to watch the posts on message boards during an actual game. Somebody misses a tackle and it’s, “OMG WTF FIRE CHAVIS!!!!!” I realize some just hate Fulmer for what happened when he got hired, but it seems (and I’ve said this before I think) that we have a vocal contingent of fans that think they know a lot about football but don’t: If a play gains yards it was a great play; if a play doesn’t work we should fire coaches during the game. Cutcliffe took a true freshman in Peyton Manning and taught him well enough to go 7-1 (and shoulda beat Bama) as a starter in the SEC, and I saw a lot of posts during the Outback Bowl along the lines of “good riddance.”

As for the KNS, I try to stick to the actual news articles that just say what happened in a practice or game, usually by Strange or Griffith. Adams, Hooker and especially Pennington get annoying.

I do my best to avoid the Sports Talk Radio, seeing that there’s really less Sports and primarily just UT Football and now Basketball, everything else is the red-headed step children. Heaven forbid that you bring up the subject “what is the definition of an athlete”…

I can’t say that I go over to GVX or KNS… for ANY of my local news… I have the feed for Knoxviile City Govt on Reader and this blog… for my key… in depth analysis of the Vol nation.

And if you need to raise your IQ, just watch The Simpsons… everything you need to know about functioning in the real world you can learn from Homer.

Ah, Terry, you kick so much ass. Of course, this is the only site that ANYONE should ever go to for awesome.. well, awesomeness in general.

And I’ll agree on the Simpsons being a good indicator of what’s going on in the real world…

    Ohio State Sucks.
