And the Clock Strikes Midnight

Is the Cinderella story for the Wildcats over? Well, the entire story might not yet be over, but the undefeated chapter certainly is. In a valiantly fought effort at Williams-Brice Stadium, the Wildcats did their best to answer South Carolina’s methodical attack, but it was ultimately the defense (and two huge turnovers for TDs) that let the Cats down on Thursday night.

Andre Woodson still looked like a potential Heisman candidate, threading tough throws in small windows, and despite the interception in the red zone, shouldn’t be docked too much in the contention as a result of the loss to the Gamecocks.

Kentucky is still a team to be reckoned with, and I think it’s pretty safe to say that South Carolina is for real as well. Whenever the commentators remind us that the same Steve Spurrier that is coaching the Gamecocks right now, took Duke to an ACC title (yes, in football), it puts the rest of the league on notice when he says that he feels like the Cocks can compete for the SEC title.

Good effort by both schools, and congratulations to South Carolina on a hard fought victory against a good Kentucky team. This weekend should clear up the Eastern Division picture in the SEC a little bit more (all on CBS no less).

P.S. Check out our buddies over at A Sea Of Blue, for some Kentucky-centric commentary on the game.

I don’t know, I thought Kentucky’s D played well enough to win and that Woodson pretty much blew the game for them. INT, fumbled lateral, missing open receivers, ill-advised throws, etc etc etc.

SC was held to -15 yards in the third quarter and 86 yards rushing overall. That’s pretty good for a Kentucky D.

Rusty, You know, upon further inspection, that is true. It just seemed like when they need a stop however, they just couldn’t get it done. Sure, it was the offense that put them in the position of needing the stop to get 2 scores, but even if the score had been tied, the D would have had to step up in the 4th quarter, but it just didn’t seem to be in the cards.

The lateral was a terrible decision by Woodson, and the INT was pretty costly as well, but when the O is down, the D has to step up and win it for you, which is precisely what USC did to win the game.

What game were you watching? The defense gave this offense plenty of chances to change the game and the offense dropped the ball (literally). The offense gave up 14 pts and the defense held SC to -15 yards in the 3rd quarter forcing three straight three and outs but our offense couldnt capitalize. It was a bad game hopefully they will rebound well. I like the title of the post though.
