Well, the Tennessee Volunteers, in their annual (not anal) visit to Gainesville were able to pull out a close victory against the Florida Gators on Sunday afternoon.

That’s what most of the papers in the Knoxville area (most of the papers? Is there more than one?) will be writing about come Monday morning.

What they won’t tell you however, is that there was a much more compelling and heartening story going on right beneath their fingers. The slow meltdown of an addict.

Addiction is a hard thing to overcome. For most who suffer from it, it’s not something that can be tackled simply through one’s own personal resolve. This however, doesn’t stop many from at least trying to do so.

Bert(elkamp) is by all accounts a good man. He’s well loved within the Volunteer community (even if it’s in a mocking way like we do here at fulmer’s belly), but loved nonetheless.

That’s what makes it that much harder to be around him during this difficult time. Now, before that idiot copyright holder guy or Bert(elkamp)’s “peeps” decide to send me a nice message, of course I’m talking about Bert(elkamp)’s addiction to: Money!

Even further clarifying the concept… not “money” as in gambling debt money… but “Money!” as in “Chris Lofton just hit a three… MONEY!” money.

Honestly, this season has been difficult for Vol fans, with their lack of explosiveness, full court pressure, and three point shooting, but it’s been especially hard on Bert(elkamp) whose penchant for yelling out the one word phrase we’ve all come to love (read: loathe) has taken a dramatic hit in the 08/09 season.

It got so bad that during the Florida game on Sunday, with time winding down, and a Tennessee player shooting foul shots and after having missed his first one, sunk the second one to a Money! call from Bert(elkamp).

So, I say to the Tennessee BasketVols, if you care. If you truly care about the people around you. For goodness sake’s.. hit some fucking threes.
