Okay, I’m going to try to keep the Hamilton bashing to a minimum here, but Don and I were discussing exactly how hard the job of Athletic Director must be. Our conclusion? Not very.
First off, you basically do what the Haslams and Thorntons tell you to do. I think this is probably the most difficult part of the job. Why? Because no one likes to kiss ass all the time, and that’s essentially the position you’re put in. (As a side note, it would be smart for the new coach to immediately start kissing the boosters asses even MORE than Hamilton does…just saying)
Now, after you’ve been told by the big boosters to cut your coach loose, what’s next? It’s your job to find a new coach, right? So you do what you’ve been hired to do…bring in a search firm!
I mean, seriously, does he really need to hire a company to go out and find football coaches for you? What is it exactly that these guys do? Look at the different schools’ websites and write down the names of the head coaches of the football teams? Give John Adams a call and see who he thinks is on the shortlist? I mean, if that’s the case, I could do that. I’ll bet these guys are getting paid millions of dollars to do just that.

I’ve found a better use for the money… fuel’s expensive ya know
Oh, I suppose I left out the part about the search firm having to go trough the tumultuous process of finding all those coaches currently without jobs like Bill Cowher and… um… uh… did I say Bill Cowher yet?
Also, in this day and age of coaches and their terrible reputations for saying one thing, but meaning another (cough, Saban, cough), other coaches are quick, perhaps too quick, to make quick statements quelling any notion that they might even be considered as candidates for jobs. We’ve already been rebuffed by the likes of David Cutcliffe and Butch Davis, and I swear, if we hire the head football coach from Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I’m going to throw a hissy, obviously partially because they don’t have a football team.. I mean, they totally do! and it’s Me and Don! And we’re going to be the next Bruce Pearl! WOO!
Either that, or we’ll throw our names in the hat to be the next AD of Tennessee when the next 3 coaches fall flat on their faces in a sea of retardedly high expectations at a school which resides in a state with a dearth of talent and a whole host of other family issues. It’s great to be a Tennessee… something.

was loyal to his school. By all accounts, he played by the rules. He was a hard-working, though not innovative, coach.
But let’s not feel a lot sorry for him. He lasted nearly 17 season at Tennessee, longer than anyone not named Paterno or Bowden can expect nowadays. He basked in glory, won championships and got to coach Peyton Manning. And he walks away with a staggering $6 million.
For that, Volunteer fans should be outraged that athletics director Mike Hamilton awarded Fulmer a long-term extension after last season when he knew the Big Orange Man was falling out of favor. Were I a booster, I would tell Hamilton to figure out how to pay off this bonanza without raising ticket prices the next several seasons. The deal was a terrible decision by the A.D., whose primary decisions involve the employment status of the head football coach.
Farewell, Phil. You’ll be missed.

My life is pretty good. Who am I kidding My life is GRRRRRRRRREAT!!!! Sorry no one reading this can be an AD, do you have any idea what kind of stress I deal with on a daily basis? If we were all ADs who would I fire?
PS. Sorry about you website losing its name sake. Maybe he will coach somewhere else and you can change to that kind of blog.
I don’t want to bash Hamilton either, but I would like to bitch-slap him across his face.
