Wooo! The Tennessee football team is 7-0!!!

Well, the Titans that is.  It’s always a little bit of a struggle when the Titans play the Colts…do I root for Peyton?  Or do I root for Tennessee?  I usually settle on Tennessee, but if Peyton wins, I don’t feel all that bad.  It’s sort of win/win, except, you know, someone loses.

Back at the homefront, there’s more drama than last week’s episode of Desperate Housewives (shut up you, we know you watch it) regarding the coaching situation at UT. People just can’t quit speculating – will Fulmer get fired?  When will he get fired?  Is Mike Hamilton stupid for not already having fired him?  Should we fire Mike Hamilton for not having already fired Fulmer and hire someone not afraid to fire coaches?  Should we pre-emptively fire that guy?

I think it’s time we stop worrying about it.  Let’s lay off Fulmer a bit – he’s got an incredibly high win percentage and has given us some damn fine seasons.  Is it time for him to move on?  Probably, but we should be supportive at the same time.  He’s sort of like that girlfriend we’ve all had (except Jon, cuz he’s gay) that you’re tired of, but there’s just too much history to cut loose.  Can we stay friends?  Maybe have a little romp here and there?

You know, I’m really not sure where I was trying to go with that simile.  Perhaps we should just let it go.

And maybe UT can try and hire Jeff Fisher?  He’d be a great OC under Fulmer.

I comend you FB! This is the first thing I have read that isn’t “my sources say….” BS. If your sources are so great why hasn’t the news hit The NEWS and it is just on some blog or message board. Thanks FB for not falling into this type of thing. (Or are your sources a little weaker than other bloggers?)

    GO VOLS!!!!

Daniel, as always much appreciated. We do have sources, but they’re too dumb to say anything, and in fact, we’ve been thinking about upgrading them since so far they include:

    1. The lunch lady at the 2nd register from the left at Rocky Top Grill
    2. The lunch lady at the 3rd register from the left at rocky Top Grill
    3. The stock dude in the Organic Chem lab in Bueller
    4. A banana peel we found.

So I mean, I don’t know, but the information just hasn’t been there as of late. We’ll try to pick it up though. My sources tell me that I owe $4 for my whopper and $248 for some broken glassware that Don broke.

I don’t know what’s up with our offense. I heard somebody say today on the radio that Clawson was a “bad hire” and that we shouldn’t have hired a 1-AA guy. 2 things:

First, Ohio State hired a 1-AA guy and it turned out ok for them. Before Utah got Urban Meyer he was coach at Bowling Green (which isn’t 1-AA but close enough.)

Second, I always thought football is football, and yes Clawson came from 1-AA and he was used to going against 1-AA defenses, but theoretically he should have better guys to run his what was described as “prolific” offense at UT. Plus, Fulmer was OC before he was head coach, so I don’t know why Fulmer doesn’t at least suggest some plays now and then, or get rid of Clawson at the end of the season and just run the offense himself.

Alex, if Fulmer lead the offense with no OC who would take the blame if the Vols fail? I’m not saying its Clawson’s flault but people make it out to be.

Like I’ve said numerous times, I just don’t understand how a “system” can be successful at Richmond and not UT. If they guys run the plays correctly it should still be prolific? Now, if they are not running the plays correctly, why aren’t they? Are UT guys not able to pick it up like Richmond Spiders?

But there are some things the Clawfense does I don’t like, too. I don’t understand what advantage the offense has by “flipping” the OL, and I don’t like a 6-8 tight end running a 2-yard pass route in front of the LB and OMG CATCH THE FREAKIN’ BALL STOCKER!!!

If Fulmer was OC and we just ran a pro-style offense, would we be successful like last year when we had a 1000-yard rusher? I’m babbling but I think my point is, how can the same OL go from a 1000-yard rusher and 4 sacks all year to crap? Somewhere in there this time, has to be offensive coaching. I don’t think it’s Fulmer’s fault. The question to me is, do we give Clawson more time to make this thing “prolific”? Hell even average would be an improvement.

My take on it is that I think Clawson, given enough time, and ability to get “his type” of players, could make the offense work much in the same way that it took Urban a couple years before he got “his” offense in. The difference being that Urban’s “temporary” offense was better than his “real deal” offense which netted 4 losses last year, and 1 so far this year.

Clawson’s system is fine in and of itself, but to have kids running it that were recruited for a “pro style” offense, it’s not really going to work within 6-9 months of limited practice and reps.

The O-Line flipping isn’t the problem I don’t think so much as the scheming, whereas in D1-AA if you had the one spectacular athlete (who could easily play in the SEC, but had complete shit-for-grades), he can usually outrun everyone whether the blocking is there or not. Not so much in the SEC, so the system needs to adjust, but I think in the tradition of Tennessee football, it’s just not adjusting fast enough (or at all).

I’d be surprised if Clawson lasts past this season (although I think he deserves a chance), but more than likely Fulmer will be back for at least one season, run a pro-style offense (which is what the players want anyway), and be productive, finishing perhaps tied for 2nd in the East, with him bowing out to shiny new head coach…… (insert shitty coach’s name here), who will sound awesome, but suck for about 4 years before getting canned for someone from nowhere who actually turns out to rule…

Generally I do not learn post on blogs, however I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to take a look at and do it! Your writing taste has been amazed me. Thanks, very nice post.

You aren’t the average website article writer, gentleman. You certainly have got something potent to include in the net. Your design is so robust that one could nearly pull off as a bad article writer, yet you’re also amazing from articulating that which you must state. Keep up the great work guy!
