Where to go from here?

After a big loss (which seems to happen more often than it should around here these days), we all take a step back and try to figure out what the next steps are.

For most Vol fans, the answer probably goes something along the lines of “fix the offense” or “stop playing such soft defense” or “finally get people on special teams who know what they’re doing,” but for us here at Fulmer’s Belly, we’ve decided that perhaps becoming a fairweather fan might be better.

That being said, we need to find a new team to become a fairweather fan of.  We thought of other teams in the SEC such as Georgia, or even Florida.  But it’d be difficult to actually root for evil, so we thought how about Kentucky or Vanderbilt?  Two teams that are more kick ass than the Vols could even hope to be.

But in the interest of competition, there are already a few Kentucky blogs out there (granted they are basketball-centric).  As far as we can tell, there exists no such thing as a Vanderbilt blog that isn’t run by a bunch of nerds using super nerd language for nerds.  Nerd.

So, we’re thinking about putting up a few black curtains for the depression of Tennessee sucking balls, but which can be doubly used as Vandy color blogs as well.  I’m not sure if we’re nerdy enough though.  Or know how to use words that are smart and… not small, or ooh, ooh… big!

This would be the perfect team to be a fair weather fan of because of a few reasons.

    1. Ranked in the top 25 for first time a couple decades.

    2. In Tennessee

    3. Will beat Tennessee

    4. School was named after a man named Cornelius

    5. Their mascot is a Navy Shipman who is landlocked and not really near any large body of water.

Hey basketball starts soon, Coach Pearl will fire us up!

But, my solution is to fix the offense, without knowing how to do that. This OL gave up 4 sacks last year but they can’t protect Crompton? The WR’s don’t get open so he just sits back there and 20 seconds into the play decides to try and run for 3rd and 17.

That OL that you speak of only gave up 4 sacks last season because Erik Ainge was instructed to throw the ball away as soon as he was under duress. How many sacks would they have allowed had he not thrown the ball out of bounds every time a defensive lineman got in his personal space? I’m guessing a lot more than 4.

Well I’ve been slowly becoming more of a pro football fan since moving to Nashville. My parents live in East TN and I don’t see a lot of Titans jerseys at all when I visit (plenty of Colts though). Maybe now’s the time bandwagoneers, 3-0 who hoo…ahead of the Colts by two games…

You have a pretty good writing skills. Nice blog. Add to my reader!

We could use a lot of those throw-aways the last 2 games, eh? Crompton locks on to 1 receiver and hasn’t been accurate (except for the passes that are dropped). But, he wasn’t like that against LSU in 2006…he threw a perfect TD pass to Meachem. How does a guy go backwards?

Howdy, I was scanning another fact about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective about it is diametrically contradicted to what I read earlier. I’m still pondering on the opposite points of view, but I’m leaning to a great extent toward yours. And irrespective, that’s what is so wonderful about modern-day democracy and the marketplace of ideas online.
