Rank Team Delta
1 Alabama
2 Oklahoma 2
3 Missouri
4 Penn State 3
5 LSU 3
6 Brigham Young 4
7 Texas Tech 5
8 Auburn 13
9 Georgia 4
10 Southern Cal 8
11 South Florida 4
12 Ohio State 8
13 Vanderbilt
14 Virginia Tech 12
15 Oklahoma State 3
16 Connecticut 10
17 Florida 11
18 Boise State 8
19 Kentucky
20 Ball State 3
21 Utah 1
22 Northwestern 4
23 Fresno State 2
24 Kansas State 2
25 Tulsa 1

Dropped Out: Texas (#9), Wisconsin (#11), Nebraska (#14), Wake Forest (#16), TCU (#17), Clemson (#24).

A Few Thoughts: We’ve decided to keep Bama at #1 seeing as how they’ve now beaten two top 10 teams and at this point, have absolutely the strongest resume in the country.  Oklahoma and Penn State both look fantastically strong right now and look to be the front runners in the Big 12 and the Big Ten respectively.  Missouri is still undefeated and looking strong, and having an off week doesn’t hurt when all the teams in front of you lose.

LSU is the only undefeated team in the SEC, and Auburn’s only loss was by 1 point.  Brigham Young has what appears to be a relatively easy route to win the Mountain West.  Georgia lost to the #1 team in our poll, and although Southern Cal lost to a 1-2 team, they still look to be the strongest team in the Pac 10.

The second 10 is kicked off by South Florida, although we’re a bit leery as to how they’re fare with the rest of their schedule, but being undefeated, still has the edge on OSU whose shellacking at the hands of USC looks a bit worse this week.  Vandy deserves to stay where they are for now, until they get into some SEC games, Virginia Tech has rebounded nicely since the opening week loss to ECU, OK State is still undefeated though they haven’t played anyone.

Kentucky and Ball State round out the second 20 until they lose (which should be any minute now), and the last 5 really are a toss up with Tulsa bringing up the rear for being undefeated.

Can’t Spell Sucky

Posted on Thursday 25 September 2008

Without U-S-C.  I think… Hang on, SUCky.  Yeah.  Can’t spell it without KY either, but right now, I mean, while they have a better record than us, I’ll have to tone that rhetoric down for a bit.

Southern California, the darlings of the media and of bloggers everywhere (except for us, who picked Alabama as the #1 team in the land), fell for the second time in 3 years to a team named after a female body part.

It seems only right though, that the Beavers would beat the Trojans.  Because as we all know, the Beaver wins every time.  If not, none of us would be here right now.

Hopefully men everywhere can check the structural stability of their own Trojans in their wallets everywhere, and not let the Beavers win again!

Travelling Fools

Posted on Thursday 25 September 2008

Hey, actually both Don and myself are travelling at the moment so the posts this week will be few and far between seeing as how we don’t care about this crap team anymore, especially since we’ll lose bad to Auburn anyway.   But in all honesty, we’ll try to get around to posting around mid-weekof some analysis of the evil that is Auburn.  War Eagle?  What the heck kind of weird ass chant is that?  Do they love war?  And eagles?  I thought their mascot was a tiger?  I don’t get it.  But then I also don’t get why we can’t throw the ball downfield either.  I also don’t get why my supermodel girlfriends won’t come and see me at my messy studio apartment.  If you have the answer to any of these questions, please let us know.  In the meantime, have a good week, and don’t cry too much for us, Argentina.

Blogpoll: Week 4?

Posted on Tuesday 23 September 2008

Is it really week 4?  Anyhoo, time for us to show you our Blogpoll for the week.  The top 25 is still murky, but at week 4, we’re starting to get some sort of clue as to who has talent (Bama, USC) and who doesn’t (um…Tennessee?).

Rank Team Delta
1 Alabama 8
2 Southern Cal 1
3 Missouri 1
4 Oklahoma 1
5 Georgia 1
6 Florida 1
7 Penn State 1
8 LSU 1
9 Texas 1
10 Brigham Young
11 Wisconsin
12 Texas Tech 1
13 Vanderbilt 7
14 Nebraska
15 South Florida
16 Wake Forest
17 TCU 4
18 Oklahoma State 1
19 Kentucky 3
20 Ohio State 3
21 Auburn 9
22 Utah 4
23 Ball State 2
24 Clemson 2
25 Fresno State 1

Dropped Out: Arizona State (#17), Oregon (#18), Kansas State (#24).

Why Alabama as number 1?  My gut tells me USC is the better team at the moment, but Bama has a nicer resume.  Why not USC on top??  First, Virginia isn’t as good as I thought, so that win doesn’t count for much.  OSU struggled against Troy, which really hurts that win.  Bama has beaten Clemson, Tulane, and Arkansas, all of which are better than Virginia, and Clemson is probably better than OSU.  So at the moment, Bama has a nicer resume and deserves the top spot.

Things then stay the same until we come to Vanderbilt, which gets an eye popping 7 spot jump.  Why?  We’re gonna go ahead and jump on the Vandy bandwagon; look for the first winning season from them since Jesus was an alumnus.

Sound off, you may or may not agree, and we’ll consider any changes.  But probably not, as we’re lazy and post this only hours from the deadline anyway.

Where to go from here?

After a big loss (which seems to happen more often than it should around here these days), we all take a step back and try to figure out what the next steps are.

For most Vol fans, the answer probably goes something along the lines of “fix the offense” or “stop playing such soft defense” or “finally get people on special teams who know what they’re doing,” but for us here at Fulmer’s Belly, we’ve decided that perhaps becoming a fairweather fan might be better.

That being said, we need to find a new team to become a fairweather fan of.  We thought of other teams in the SEC such as Georgia, or even Florida.  But it’d be difficult to actually root for evil, so we thought how about Kentucky or Vanderbilt?  Two teams that are more kick ass than the Vols could even hope to be.

But in the interest of competition, there are already a few Kentucky blogs out there (granted they are basketball-centric).  As far as we can tell, there exists no such thing as a Vanderbilt blog that isn’t run by a bunch of nerds using super nerd language for nerds.  Nerd.

So, we’re thinking about putting up a few black curtains for the depression of Tennessee sucking balls, but which can be doubly used as Vandy color blogs as well.  I’m not sure if we’re nerdy enough though.  Or know how to use words that are smart and… not small, or ooh, ooh… big!

Wooo!

Posted on Saturday 20 September 2008

When everyone doubted the Vols, they were able to band together and beat a team that no one thought they could in Florida.  The Florida linebacker Spikes claimed the Tennessee Vols quit last year, but this year it was Spikes who quit when the game got out of reach and the Vols rolled to victory over a talented Gator squad.

Without the help of the tremendous playcalling of Dave Clawson (who is absolutely in line to become the next head coach after Fulmer rides off into the sunset after winning his second National Championship), and the excellent execution of our much-heralded heisman-favorite quarterback Jonathan Crompton, none of this would have been possible.  The defense who limited Florida starting from the opening drive, played like champions again.

Now it’s more of a question of who can beat Tennessee?  If they keep playing like they did Saturday afternoon, that answer is nobody.  With such a convincing win against a team like Florida, Tennessee is now in the driver’s seat for the SEC East, not having to claw back from behind like they had to do in previous years.

Congratulations to the Vols, and consolations to the Gators.

It’s like they do with presidential elections, the speechwriters generally write two speeches.  One if they win, and one if they lose.  I’ve always wanted to read the “other” speeches that have been written througout history.

Can we win another game this season?  Probably not.

No one can ever accuse me of not being a die hard fan even when the times are tough, but perhaps it might be time to find another team to root for.  Until they get their kinks worked out anyway.  I’ve given it some thought, and it seems like perhaps the fairweather fans have the right idea.  Why waste anguish when rooting for a shit team?  Just root for the team that’s hot right now, and switch when it gets bad.  That said, Go Commodores!  THE premier team of Tennessee.

Enemy Watch: Florida

Posted on Thursday 18 September 2008

It’s finally time for league play to start, and it couldn’t be too soon (or could it?) for the Volunteers of Tennessee.  In light of league play, we’ve decided to bring forth the enemy watch for the coming opponent, a.k.a. the current axis of evil.  This week we dutifully bring to you the Gators of the University of Florida… and why they suck.

1. Apparel

The Gators, in all their enduring wisdom, wear uniforms that consist of blue shirts, white numbers, white pants with orange and blue stripes and orange helmets with blue script writing.  They look approximately as such:

Here is some Tebow fellow showing off the pit area of the jersey

As if the uniforms weren’t quite ADD enough, they decided to include a blue belt with the white pants.  Of course, none of us can forget the unfortunate day when the gators decided to wear under shirts that had the one blue arm and the one partially orange arm.  That was a great fashion statement.  And by “great fashion statement” I mean “ugly as crap.”

It should also be noted that the unis are made by Nike, which we all know is an inferior brand to Adidas.

Click the jump for more… or not… but if you don’t you’ll go sterile and suffer from erectile dysfunction.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
