Comment Contest Winner: June 30, 2008

Posted on Monday 30 June 2008

Ah, this week’s comment contest brought out the… well, homophobia in the blogosphere.  I suppose I’ll just try to stick to asking you guys to post pictures of boobs and what not.

Anyway, this week’s winner hails from… actually I have no idea, but anyway, this week’s winner is Daniel.  I’m going to say he lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, because I get the feeling that he might be from somewhere badass like that.  And for working in the phrase “catcher’s mitt.”

I am going to go the most evil route and say Andre Woodson. How is he evil you say? He single handedly gave the Kensucky Wildcats hope, in respect to a football team. This one guy made UK fans think they were a force to be reckoned with. They beat louisville and vaulted there team to a ranking never before seen by the likes of UK football. Little did we or they know that UL actually sucked and then they beat the #1 LSU tigers. I’ll give them props for that but then to finish 1-4 for the last 5 games of the season. Back to UK football. So for giving UK hope early in the season only to realize that they were still UK in the end, I vote for Andrea Woodson.

Best looking actor you ask, well of course it is me. I act like I am busy all day at work and actually am not. No one every questions my busyness, and I am actually loved by my boss as a worker, my boss is female. So I give an open invite to all commentors to go gay for me. Just keep in mind I only know how to pitch, I don’t have a catchers mitt.

Catcher’s mitt… Genius.

Comment Contest: June 27, 2008

Posted on Friday 27 June 2008

Here we go with another week of the Eastern Division’s comment contest.  It’s been good since we’ve switched over to the East, so let’s keep it going.  If you don’t comment, well, nothing will happen, but I’ll be sad.  And if I’m sad, well, you won’t care, which will make me even more sad.  And that’s just sad.

1. Who is/was the worst/most evil Kentucky football player of all time?

2. I’m gonna throw you guys a curveball here…  Who is the best looking male actor of all time?  (For the ladies, who would you most like to schtup, and for the guys, who would you go gay for?)

Have a good weekend.

Getting Drafty.

Posted on Thursday 26 June 2008

I had a hard time coming up with a topic to write about today (as I do most days during the offseason), but this being one of the few days where a sports-related happening is um… happening.  The NBA draft will be on later today.

Now, generally speaking, Vol fans had about as much reason to watch the NBA draft as people with functioning brains had to watch MTV, but this year is different.  We actually have prospects this year.  That being said, realistically, we’re likely still in for a let down.  Because of this, my first post was going to look something like this:

Man, I hope Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith get drafted.  They probably won’t though.  Aw well.

Quite frankly, that probably would have been a better post, being succinct and to the point, but since you guys all pay good money to come to our site (we’ll be billed on your credit card as “Hong Kong Spa Services”), we thought it necessary to have a longer post full of useless filler words and text.  We learned it from the News Sentinel and GoVolsXtra.

The next thing you’ll see is us writing stories about how if a player doesn’t commit to Tennessee, he’ll be committing somewhere else.  That’s fantastic journalism, and we’ll strive to one day be even partly that cool.

Good Luck Chris and JaJuan.

Classic Post: November 30, 2007

Posted on Wednesday 25 June 2008

So, here’s a “classic post” from really, not too long ago (from near the end of last season), but I thought I’d dust it off and present it to you here anyway.  It’s not particularly funny nor particularly insightful, but I love bashing on the GVX commenters as much as possible because it makes me feel superior.  And as long as i feel superior, I know that I am.  Heh.

So, enjoy this classic post from November 30, 2007: Open Letter: Haters:

I would like to take this opportunity to write a letter to the haters. I’m not talking about UT haters, I’m not talking about football haters, or even haters of our site (because who could hate such an awesome site as this?). I’m talking about Fulmer haters. I can only wonder where the hate stems from?

It obviously has to be some sort of penis envy of other schools that supposedly have better coaches or better… whatever, because unless the whiny “I hate Fulmer” commenters on the Knox News website (a great place to air your grievances btw… everyone cares what you have to say there) are 30+ years old, the only two coaches they’ve ever known at UT are Phil Fulmer and Johnny Majors.

Let’s just say for the sake of argument that 40-50+ year old folks are going online and making up clever pet names for our head coach trying to hate on him, what are you expecting, a return to the glory days of… Bill Battle? Doug Dickey had a pretty good record overall, but it still wasn’t as good as Fulmer’s. The only coach in Tennessee history to hold a better overall winning percentage than Fulmer was Robert Neyland, and if you were around to see any of his teams play, I doubt you spend your free time on the local newspaper websites talking smack.

If someone hates Fulmer that much, they must not really be a fan of UT in the first place. He’s been the head of the organization for 15 years, and you know what? He’s good. I dislike fairweather fans, but what I hate, are fans who only know how to talk shit. Wanna hate that much? Be a fan of a different team because you know what? Fulmer’s about to get a raise. Do I drink the Kool Aid? Of course I do. Why? Because it’s DELISH!

I’ll have some of the ORANGE please.

Who would be a better candidate? Any of the other SEC coaches? Les Miles might bolt to Michigan, leaving LSU without a coach after a few years again, like the girl who swears that this guy is different, and that he really really loves her. Urban Meyer? I’m sorry, but if Tim Tebow were my quarterback, I’d have to become a fan of the Big East or something. I just can’t stand to look at that goofy, sort of brainwashed face. Any other coach in the SEC? I’m sorry to point out this bit of fact, but all the other coaches save Miles and Fulmer are staying at home this weekend, awaiting their fate.

I saw a couple comments about how “talent overcame coaching” or something to that effect. Um, did you guys actually watch the game? The first half big lead? Combination of talent and coaching. The second half collapse? The talent couldn’t catch quite a few passes that could have helped put the game out of reach during regulation. So, yeah, the coaches should totally be blamed for dropped passes. Shut it.

Parker Right Over There

Posted on Tuesday 24 June 2008

Candace Parker, everyone’s favorite female dunker, has done it again, but this time in the WNBA.

YouTube Preview Image
(note: video might or might not work depending, the embed feature seems to be a bit on the fritz at this point, we’re trying to figure it out in fact, probably not working so.. here’s the link.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsCks-kBfKc

Anyway, Parker is representing the WNBA well, as currently most of the professional basketball players from the University of Tennessee are playing in the WNBA.  Hopefully Chris Lofton will join the ranks as well as the minions of Bruce Pearl disciples that he is bringing in, but for the time being, I’ll be an LA Sparks fan, as they have three, count em, THREE, former Lady Vols on their roster.  I probably still won’t go watch any of their games though.

Comment Contest Winner: June 23, 2008

Posted on Monday 23 June 2008

Okie dokie,

This week had a great turnout, and as always, some lively discussion as well.  Of course, the winner doesn’t necessarily reflect our opinions per se, but is you know, randomly chosen by means of who sends us more cookies.  This week’s winner: beefe.  Why?  You might ask.  Well…

Most evil Georgia player… This will probably disqualify me but what the heck. Larry Munson. Who is he some may be asking? Well he is the announcer for the Bullfags and to this day I can still hear him saying “WE just stepped on their face with a hobnailed boot and broke their nose, we just CRUSHED THEIR FACE!” as David Greene to Verron Haynes with 5 seconds to play gave Georgia an incredible comeback win in Neyland Stadium. WTF who says that on the radio. I really believe that game was a turning point in the Tennessee Football program for the worse that we still haven’t completely recovered from yet. I wish Kesling had the balls to say stuff like that on the radio. I miss John Ward. He is Munson in action talking mad smack at the end of the game.

watch?v=JFzYJ0HmQnk

Hottest Actress who does T.V. also…

Since I am already disqualified maybe I will go with a long shot…

Blake Lively… if you don’t know who she is you will. Totally hot on so many levels. A real up and comer she will be at the top of everyone’s list soon enough. She has been in various movies over past few years and has a star role on a WB show Gossip Girl. She is 20 almost 21 so don’t feel too guilty. Just check out the photo’s

You know what?  Larry Munson was an asshole.  He’s there advocating the breaking of noses with hob nailed boots (which I don’t even have a clue as to what they actually are).  I mean, Bob Kesling, hate him or hate him, is usually pretty civil towards the other team.  If fans of other teams hated say, Bert Bertelkamp, I’d understand, but I digress.  Oh, and not to mention, Blake Lively?  Totally hot.. I’ve hit that.. twice…

Comment Contest: June 20, 2008

Posted on Friday 20 June 2008

Okie dokie folks, last week’s comment contest was pretty good, even though MoonDog did his best to turn us into a porn site (which quite frankly would be quite an improvement).  Anyway, here we go, trudging along with the Eastern Division, and this week will hopefully be just as good in terms of participation, so without further ado:

1. Who is/was the worst/most evil Georgia player of all time?

2. Who is the most attractive actress of the 2000s?  (Difficulty, must have starred on a TV show in the last 8 years)

Good luck to all you fools who keep coming back for more, and see you on Monday.
