Bruce Pearl, a.k.a. “the Sweaty One” and the BasketVols, much like Tom Brady at the SuperBowl Media Days, were able to turn down the advances of an Alabama team that was able to keep a game closer than the Sweaty Orange one would have probably liked, but in the end, were able to pull out the victory in the annual T&A game.

Speaking of T&A, not to get too off track, but the woman who proposed to Brady, was pretty fine if I do say so myself.

Inez Gomez Mont… “Marriage Proposal Lady”

Hmm, not bad.. not bad at all. Why would any sane man turn down this type of advance? Well, if you’re in bed with… well.. see for yourself.

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

Where was I? Oh yeah, Tennessee won a basketball game or something. Actually, there were quite a few highlight-worthy plays for both sides, and if it weren’t for ridiculously boring baseball coverage of some dude named Johan, and coverage of the big NFL game that’s not for another 5 days, ESPN probably would have shown a few of the clips. I guess we’ll all have to live with the fact that they at least hyped the game based pretty much solely on the fact that it was on their own whore-tastic network. Yay!

Edit: Of course I spoke too soon, with 3 of the top 10 plays coming from the UT/Bama game. Duke Sucks.

Pat Summitt is Scary

Posted on Monday 28 January 2008

Pat Summitt was mic’d up for the Lady Vols game against the Duke Lady Blue Devils? on Monday Night (cut a few minutes into my wrasslin’ watchin’ time btw), and when she was chewing out a few of her players on the sidelines, I won’t lie.. I shat myself a little.

Summitt seems to be just as intense now as she was when she was winning games 20 years ago (because I would know, since I’m so intimately connected with the team and stuff like that).  Animated, vocal, possibly sweating through her blazer, remind you of anyone?

Bruce Pearl and Pat Summitt are slowly morphing into the same person, and soon, I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually turned into a single supercoach.  Either that, or if they have kids, will be able to coach both the men’s and women’s teams simultaneously.  The future looks bright for the BasketVols.

Duke Sucks.

Georgia on My Mi…

Posted on Saturday 26 January 2008

Not so much.

The Bulldogs didn’t even growl on their way to what essentially amounted to a 20 point loss Saturday night.  Even though Chris Lofton scored about 900 points in the game, he didn’t really have to, with the way that the BasketVols played suffocating defense and a pretty much “whatever they wanted to do” offense.

Tennessee ended up playing 12 players or so on the night, which is essentially 2 teams plus Josh Tabb and Duke Crews.  It just wasn’t even fair for the Bulldogs.  With the Kentucky loss firmly behind them, the BasketVols returned to form in beating down an Eastern Division foe, keeping the home streak alive, and preserving hopes of holding on to a top 10 spot in the rankings.

Hopefully all the rest of the SEC games can go like this one did, at least in terms of Lofton getting out of his shooting slump, but the conference schedule is still long and looming with a week long road trip coming up next week.

Bruce Pearl should be proud of his team for bouncing back from a loss, and should press the team to you know… never lose again.  That would be the smart coaching move.  Man, I should be a coach.

Quick Questions: All Star Bowls

Posted on Friday 25 January 2008

With the Senior Bowl and a few other bowls coming up over the next couple of weeks (Ainge and Cottam will be playing in Mobile), will there be any Vols that make a big enough impact to be able to cut it in the pros?

1. Who will have the best game in the all star bowls?

2. Who will have the best chance to make it to the pros and be productive?

Leave your ideas in the comments, and the worst one will be ridiculed and made fun of.

Top 5?… Not so fast.

Posted on Wednesday 23 January 2008

The thing that sucks about sucky people using good lines, is that even though the people who use the lines suck, the lines themselves, are usually pretty good.  It is with that explanation, that I have used a “Corso-Line” to describe the loading, arming, aiming, and subsequent shooting in the foot that befell the BasketVols last night.

Tennessee was able to piss away at least two 10 point leads in order to lose to a Kentucky team that, quite honestly, should never have been in the game.  Too concerned was Tennessee with obtaining a highlight-worthy play, that they weren’t able to make the easy buckets that could have swelled a 10 point lead into the likes of an 18 point, somewhat unsurmountable lead.

Unsurmountable is a funny word.

The one bright spot (at least for the first half, and the last 15 seconds of the second half) of course, was Chris Lofton.  Everyone knew that if there was a game in which he’d break out of his funk, it would be this one.  With 14 points in the first half, it was decided (either by himself or by the coaches or whoever), that he should stop shooting in the second half.  A brilliant strategy indeed.  He held on to his 14 point scoring total until the game was essentially out of reach, when he decided to go all last year on everyone’s asses and throw up ridiculous looking 3 balls that managed to find the bottom of the net every time.

Hopefully this will become one of the losses that the team can build on, but as far as that top 5, school record ranking?  Not so fast my friend.
