This just in ... Roger Clemens had a 7 year, 3-way affair with Jim Delany and a small donkey named "Speedy."

Speedy likes the BCS.

Yeah I did that on purpose, and thank you for not editing it like SOME blogs do. The whole switch from 1-A and 1-AA was stupid and unnecessary, so much so that years after the switch (and for the foreseable future) they still have to refer to it as "formerly 1-AA." Hey, NCAA, what's the C stand for in BCS, eh?!
Reading the in Knoxville John Adams Idiotic Writings....I mean, the News Sentinel, I saw some funny stuff:

“There’s a strong sense in that room of the slippery slope view that there’s never been a collegiate or professional playoff that’s stopped at four teams,” Delany said.
Well, gosh, what could be worse?

“The seeded model (the plus-1) looked like a playoff, and we don’t think a playoff is in the best interest of college football,” Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese.
WTF? First of all, seeding the top 8 teams and picked 1 vs. 2 for the championship is already a playoff, just a 1-game playoff. Second, how can it not be in the best interest of college football when 1-AA, Division II and Division III, plus high school, NFL, CFL, Arena League, Grasshoppers, Midgets, soccer, and pretty much everything having to do with feet and balls has a playoff system?

Alex, I just got a memo from Jim Delany asking me to kick you in the nuts for using the term "1-AA" instead of "Football Championship Subdivision." Of course, I took the letter, turned that som'bitch sideways and stuck it straight up his candy ass (too old a reference?), but you know... the directive was supposed to be there... or something.

I don't think it can be mentioned enough that the 1-AA season was completely over, Championship Game and all, before Division 1-A had their very first Bowl Game. I don't see how any argument against a playoff system can't be answered by simply pointing to 1-AA. The season is much shorter when comparing Bowls vs. Playoffs, thus affecting academics less. I don't understand what extra burden would be placed on a school like USC or Tennessee over a school like Appy State, who has a fraction of the budget of the big boys.
How are regular season games diminished with a playoff? UT was 5-6 in 2005 but 1 play away (Cory Anderson WTF!?!?!?) from beating Alabama. Beating Alabama is always awesome, no matter if UT is undefeated or....unwinned.
Also, if it is in an “Unprecedented state of health” why do they need to tweak it every year?

How about not wanting the season to span 2 semesters/quarters. Pretty sure alot of schools are in session by Jan 8th when they are having the championship game. Football is a year around sport anyway. Not many of thier "reasons" made any sense to me.

I do have to say that at least the SEC presented the possibility.
